Welcome to my site, AnitaGoTravel…the name is inspired by the way my name is pronounced both in my country of birth, England, and now my country of residence, the USA. Throughout my life I have made travel a priority, and most often I travel on solo extended trips. I NEED to go travel.
I make my home in Seattle, WA., and I’ve made my living as a financial planner since 2006. However, each time I’ve been laid off, or a new opportunity presented itself, I’ve taken time to head out into the world and take another extended solo trip.
Fast approaching 40- my desire to explore has not waned, only strengthened. I think my latest African odyssey will leave me at a country count of 64…thus far!
It’s hard to believe that I’ve been blogging for more than 14 years now!
I hope you enjoy the journey with me.
Hi,
Was looking at some photos of your trip to Ambergris Caye, Belize. I’m thinking of moving there (from Canada) in September. Can I ask you, what did you think of it? Was it a nice place to visit or somewhere you’d also consider living for a few years? Will you ever go back? I’m trying to do as much research as possible, it looks nice there but also very small and I’m thinking I could get bored very quickly. Any thoughts, comments or suggestions much appreciated! Cheers,
Michael
Hi Michael! I was only there for one day, and I have to say that overall I preferred Caye Caulker because it was less built up and less commercial. Having said that, it is a beautiful island, with lots and lots of new development going on… you should be aware of this as there are hundreds of vacation homes being constructed as we speak. On the plus side as well, compared to other Central America destinations, everyone does speak English which helps a lot.I personally wouldn’t consider living there for a few years, but there shouldn’t be any indication for you as we are probably very different. It was a bit small, and if you need access to a city with the resources that provides you, you may find it a little too confining. I would suggest that you take weeklong vacation there to check it out? Also, have you looked into Panama or Costa Rica? you would never be bored there!
Anita,
Great blog! I found your blog by googling pictures of Semana Santa in Antigua, Guatemala. It looks like we were there last year at the same time:) Great pictures! Also, you are living in my hometown, Seattle. That is if you are still there. It looks like you haven’t posted in awhile so I hope all is going great for you. Love your blog!
Thanks so much for your comment…yes- I have a hard time writing this blog when I’m not actually out of the country traveling 😦 I checked out your site too. And your home is my home? we should meet up!
